Dana Henry

Stand for Children
New Orleans City Director
New Orleans, LA

As a native son of New Orleans, Dana Henry has engaged in advocacy full time as a family law and juvenile attorney in New Orleans since 2000. Since that time, Dana has also worked professionally as a management consultant and has served on several civic boards and commissions in New Orleans. His tenure on the Sci Academy/Collegiate Academies Board of Directors in 2010 served as the impetus for his transition from courtrooms to community organizing, outreach, and education advocacy for children.

As chairperson of the Community Outreach Committee on the Collegiate Academies Board, Dana was asked to engage the Carver/Desire community leaders and facilitate dialogue that would focus on the best educational opportunities for the Carver/Desire community scholars. Although at times terse and contentious, the conversations with the Carver alumni and community leaders slowly turned productive and have resulted in positive educational opportunities for the scholars at Carver Collegiate Academy and Carver Preparatory Academy. As a parent of two children who attend a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence-awarded public elementary school in New Orleans, Dana has firsthand knowledge of the positive impact that a quality, public education can have on children, parents, families, and the community as a whole.

Dana is also active with the New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD) as a volunteer coach and organizer at Kenilworth Park. Dana is a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School in New Orleans, Howard University in Washington D.C., and the Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge.
